Bust was originally conceived and produced by Richard Morrison for Social Sculpture, an exhibition curated by Elyse Cheney and Steven Harvey for the Vrej Baghoomian Gallery, in Soho, NYC, in 1991. It was filmed in the fall of 1991, intended as part of Morrison’s Black Room installation, which included several photographic works along with the film projected on an unusual screen which was gold leafed and based on the shape of a Chinese album page. Morrison’s work was installed in a special black painted gallery. The close up head and shoulders of Wojnarowicz, is the only image. He speaks wth characteristic candor and ferocity about his experience being a person with AIDS,. The film was subsequently screened, using a film print, at the Berlin Film Festival in 1993. It was also shown in the window of Soho 20 Gallery on Greene Street for Day Without Art in 1994. This print has been newly restored by Michael Kasino and appears courtesy of steven harvey fine art projects. David Wojnarowicz died in July of 1992 from AIDS.
