December 6th – 9th, 2018: Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects presents an installation of drawing and sculpture by Stanley Rosen at the NADA Miami art fair titled. The 92 year old sculptor taught at Bennington College between 1960 and 1991. During that time, he barely exhibited his work publicly. Within the last two years, Rosen’s work has become more widely known. In 2017, Bennington Museum originated a Rosen exhibition called Holding the Line, which travelled to Alfred Ceramic Art Museum later that year.

Additionally, New York’s Museum of Art & Design acquired a group of works from the sculptor that are currently on view. In October 2017, SHFAP presented the first recent gallery exhibition of Rosen’s work titled, Beginnings. This summer, his work was included in a group exhibition, Excavation, at Peter Blum Gallery.

Critical writing about Rosen’s work has appeared in Hyperallergic, Ceramics Monthly, and Sculpture Magazine. John Yau of Hyperallergic wrote, “Rosen’s ceramic sculptures are a revelation: they are like a country that many of us never knew was there until now.”

Rosen’s sculptures are small scale and hand built; generally made of unglazed stoneware clay, in earthy colors: grays, tans, dirty whites. Rosen’s imagery is related to archeology and a kind of essential architectural model making . Yau adds, “there is a tactility and a sensuality to Rosen’s sculpture that feels primordial.”

The installation at NADA Miami will include a group of clay sculptures and unframed drawings related to an installation in the artists’s home. Please contact us at 917-861-7312 or info@shfap.com for further information.
